English section – Former colony “Vittorio Emanuele III”

The former colony was built in 1930 between the first and second world war. It was originally built to house the children of the fallen of the Great War, but during the Second World War, when Faenza became a battlefield, it was converted into a civil hospital. After the war, the hospice was abandoned until in the early 2000s the colony was entrusted to the ASP (Company of Personal Services) of Faenza.

Curiosity…

During the Second World War, the locals dug tunnels in this sandy rock that led to shelters that allowed up to four families to be housed. Over time, due to rock erosion, these tunnels can no longer be inspected.
